INFINITE BOULDER

You enter a mining tunnel that winds into a mountain. As you walk down the tunnel, you hear blood-curdling screams from behind. A group of Dwarven Miners are running from a huge boulder that rolls behind them and towards you! You may notice the miners have a translucent look to them…

Solution:

Run with the Miners and they will reveal that they were crushed by this boulder many years ago. Their souls are doomed to repeat their death forever, for their bodies were never put to rest.

How do you escape the boulder? Just stop. The boulder will roll right through you, only to repeat at the top of the tunnel.

At the bottom of the mining tunnel, you find the real boulder blocking your path. Use abandoned mining tools to move the boulder and it will roll away, revealing the crushed bones of the Dwarves.

Give these miners a proper burial and they will finally find peace.

Notes for the Dungeon Master:

Feed clues slowly as the boulder repeatedly rolls and the miners repeatedly run down the shaft.

This story-driven puzzle was very satisfying to play. You may want to throw in some treasure as a reward for this altruistic sidequest.

I recommend a spooky chase music  for the boulder run and some mystical peaceful music for the Dwarvish funeral.
